The internet has revolutionized the way we are living. With just a click of your mouse you can find anything you want to know on the internet, for instance about your work, about your studies, hotels, etc., just about anything under the sun. With the use of the internet, you can do online shopping, chat with your friends, and much more. That’s the power of the internet.

I’m not going to discuss about the internet in this article. However, I would like to talk about the finer points of the web browsers, the Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.6, to let you decide which one you would like to use. It is a known fact the Internet Explorer 8 is more popular than Firefox 3.6 as of now.

The Firefox 3.6 web browser is just a few years old, but has already picked up rapid strides and recent research has also shown that Internet Explorer 8 is being used lesser by many people as compared to a few years back. The reason for the decline is that many people are downloading other web browsers which are more user-friendly and help them to perform their tasks easily through better navigation facilities.

This is also one of the reasons why FireFox has become popular, as you can download additional add-on packs. It is very user friendly also, as you can change the color of the tabs to suit your personality. Firefox also has good security when compared to other web browsers and it can protect you from viruses and spyware.

The Firefox browser has a pleasant look which makes navigation very easy and you can find what you want. You can do your work more efficiently by using Firefox. Even if you are new to the internet, you can check out the help files which can explain everything to you.

But in spite of all this, it is not surprising for people to still go back to internet explorer, as it has a great interface and influence on them. Being on the system by default, gives it the added advantage over others.

Many people like to use different browsers to get the best, as different browsers interpret the coding in different ways. Sometimes when you open the same website on the internet explorer, it could look different on FireFox. However, both the browsers have their own pros and cons.

The Internet Explorer 8 ranks quite low for those of you who like to chat. Similarly, the Firefox 3.6 crashes more often than other browsers, which makes it difficult to recover tabs after the crash and loads slowly.

Just for your information, according to NSS Labs tests, out of the five browsers Google Chrome 2, Microsoft IE 8, Mozilla Firefox 3.6, Apple Safari 4, and Opera 10, Internet Explorer 8 outperformed its competition and tied with Firefox in another test.

Facebook is the hottest thing in social networking with over 400 million active users around the world. If Facebook was a country, it would be the third most populated country in the world. In a sense, Facebook has indeed created its own cyber country, with over 400 million Facebook citizens sharing images, information, links, videos and games. Everyone seems to be connected to everybody in some ways regardless of age, location and nationality.
For an enterprising businessman, Facebook is an opportunity to expand a venture. However, like anything else in business, it involves a few risks. Is advertising in Facebook worth the risk? The main risk is having a low return in investment. Not all 400 million people are interested in your product or service. They may have been informed regarding the business, but it does not mean that they would avail. Facebook users are generally interested on the content and services of the site itself. They are more engaged on keeping in touch with their social network and regularly updating their profiles and pages. Most users may not have time to click and view ads.
However, advertising in Facebook has its advantages. First, you have over 400 million potential clients. Your business is immediately exposed to a large number of people. Facebook has easy to use tools which allow users to create, monitor and improve their ads. Users have the option to choose who sees their ads by a number of variables such as gender, geography and age. There is also tool where you can monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of your ads.
There may be equal risk and opportunities involved for Facebook ads. In the end, it is up to the users to decide whether or not the risk was worth it.

Domain Name System (DNS) helps in resolving a website address or URL to it’s IP address. Every URL has a unique IP. Since IP addresses (for example 192.168.0.1) are difficult to remember, we type a name such as google.com in the address bar of our internet explorer. The DNS system was developed to translate domain names which are more understandable by humans to IP addresses understandable by computers, as computers understand only numbers.

An Internet Service Provider (ISP) normally provides it’s own nameservers to translate URL’s to IP addresses. However there are other nameservers which are publicly available and can be safely used. These nameservers may even be better than the nameservers provided by your ISP. Find out below.

Open DNS helps in faster resolution of web pages and has some advanced features such as misspelling and phishing protection, correction and filtering. Open DNS can help in a faster browsing experience especially in opening pages which are not stored in the local cache of your computer. In addition, it also protects against phishing and corrects typos in web addresses. Access to malicious sites may also blocked by open DNS servers. DNS nameservers can also help in bypassing censorship by your ISP.

To use these nameservers, first go to “Start -> Run -> and type ‘ipconfig /flushdns’ ”
Then open your network settings and click on “TCP/IP” properties.
Enter the DNS Server address under “Use the following DNS server addresses”.

Here are the Public DNS nameservers that are available for public use.

Open DNS nameservers : (these may block malware and porn sites)
* 208.67.222.222 – resolver1.opendns.com
* 208.67.220.220 – resolver2.opendns.com
* 208.67.222.220
* 208.67.220.222

Google Public DNS nameserver : (no filter)
* 8.8.8.8
* 8.8.4.4

DNS Advantage : (these may block malware sites)
* 156.154.70.1 – rdns1.ultradns.net
* 156.154.71.1 – rdns2.ultradns.net

DNS Resolvers : (no filter)
* 4.2.2.3 – 4.2.2.2 – 4.2.2.1
